Small Game Room Design Ideas

Have you always wished you had enough space for a game room at home? Just think how much fun you would have in a place that’s entirely devoted to enjoying yourself! The good news is, even if you only have a small space to work with, you can transform an area of your home into a fun place to play games of your choice.

Select a Space

The first step is to choose an area in your home for your game room. You could create a small room by putting up a stud wall in a larger room to create an additional space or convert a whole small room. Once you know how much space you have to work with, you can begin to plan what you want to put inside the room.

Choose Your Games

The most essential part of a game room is the games it contains. The amount of space could limit you as to what games or how many games you include, so think that through carefully as you go through the process of selection. You also need to consider who the game room is for. If it is for the whole family to enjoy, you might want to include video games for the kids and a table tennis table for mom and dad. Or if you are planning for your room to be a man cave, you could choose a pool table, a darts board, and pinball machines. Quite simply, choose the right games for the right people and the right space, and you will not go wrong. Other games you could have in your game room include a foosball table, a billiards table, a selection of board games, arcade machines, games consoles, and an air hockey table. Or if you love playing casino games like blackjack and roulette, you could buy or make card tables and roulette tables.

Design a Theme or a Color Scheme

If you are designing a specific type of game room, you will want your décor to match. For example, if you are creating a casino or poker room, you can recreate a real-life gambling establishment’s atmosphere by using colors like red and green, or dice-patterned wallpaper. You might like to consider adding a small bar if you have room, as well. On the other hand, if you are designing a game room for all the family, you will want it to appear bright, funky, and fun. White walls and lots of colorful furniture and decorations can work well for that option. It is not just the colors you need to consider. Depending on your game room’s design, you will want to fill it with relevant and interesting objects. For instance, if space is primarily a video game room, you could decorate with posters of retro and modern games and Mario and Sonic toys.

Invest in Quality Items

You may be tempted to find as many games and accessories as possible to fill your game room, but if you want it to be a truly relaxing space, you need to avoid cluttering the room too much. After all, you already have a small space to work with. It is much better to invest in one or two quality items, such as a well-built pool table or a fully-functioning arcade machine, than it is to have loads of games made out of cheap plastic. Rather than going down the décor route of using logos and signage, consider creating an elegant and inviting space. A cool off-white room with light-colored decorations will often suit a home better than an out-of-place cluttered room. But at the end of the day, the type of game room you create is up to you. The most important thing is that it matches your personality and specific taste.
