Fantastic Features: 5 Home Tweaks You’ll Love

One of the benefits of living in your own home is that you can remodel it at any time and with any design that you want. For someone who enjoys change and doesn’t like looking at the same furniture and paint job for more than a year or two, this is a definite advantage. Some people even remodel as often as once a year.

There isn’t a need to spend a lot of money on a remodeling project, as there are quite a few things that you can do that don’t cost money at all or that are inexpensive.  If you are the type that wants to update the look of your home regularly, you’ll want to spend some time familiarizing yourself with these inexpensive alternatives. Remember to include the family in deciding which features to change so that they have the home that they want as well.

Add Frames

Most people enjoy seeing pictures of your family or special events that you celebrate. Display a variety of picture frames on the walls that tell a story about the members of your family. It may be tempting to just leave these pictures out without frames, or with simple matching wooden frames. Adding picture frames or adding to variety to them is a great way to alter the style of your home on the cheap!

Get an assortment of frame designs, customizing some of them so that they showcase favorite colors or patterns, and put the frames along a staircase wall, on the wall behind the couch or on a side table. Relocating pictures or swapping out the photo inside the frame is another idea you can try. This applies not just to photos, but to all artwork that you might want to display.

Painting Large Surface

An easy way to change the appearance of the home is to paint large surfaces. These include the walls, especially in the kitchen and the bathroom, or the bedroom so that kids have a new canvas to use when decorating. Another idea is to paint the garage door in a different color. Find a shade that blends with the exterior of the home but that matches the personality of the family. You could also consider working with a group like Plano Overhead Garage Door to replace the door completely.

Change the Shades

Remove the blinds on the windows and replace them with shades or curtains. If you go the shades route, you can really get creative with them if you’re artistically inclined. Maybe stencil something creative on them or a design that matches the decorations in the room. If you do this, be sure that the designs are the same, or that they at least go together.

This can be a great way to get the family involved in the process, as kids can get a little more creative when using stencils. If you plan on replacing any of the shades in your children’s rooms, it might be fun to give them a little more liberty. You’ll probably find them adding designs that include everything from cartoon characters to animals.

Rearrange

A simple tweak that you can perform is to rearrange the furniture. Don’t just move around a few chairs or a bookcase. Completely rearrange the furniture so that it looks like a different room. Add new pillows to the couch and the chairs as well as new decorations on the tables. Consider changing the furniture with different rooms for a completely new look. It may seem implausible in certain rooms, like the kitchen, but with a bit of exploration, you might find that even your table and refrigerator can be positioned in a way you hadn’t thought of before.

Refurbish the Furniture

Whether it’s adding a fresh coat of paint or adding stain, refurbish the furniture that you already have so that it looks like a new piece. You could also change the knobs or pulls on the furniture, which can make a significant impact if the color is different. When you’re painting, use sponges or a sprayer for a unique look.

Changing the way that the home looks is simple if you use the right tools. Think outside the box to come up with a unique design. When you’re tweaking the design, think about each room of the home instead of just one area at a time.
