If you’re one of the many people in the UK who takes great pride in your garden, then you’ll want to ensure that it looks at its best at all times. Proper garden maintenance means keeping your grass cut and staying on top of weeds. One aspect of keeping your garden looking great that’s a constant battle is pest control.
Common garden pests such as slugs and snails can easily destroy your plants and ruin the look of your garden. Whilst there are many pesticides available on the market, they often contain harsh chemicals that can be hazardous to children and pets. Because of this, many people seek out organic ways to tackle garden pests.
With this in mind, below are some great safe and natural pest control solutions to keep your garden free of insects.
If insects are a big problem in your garden then this soap spray will certainly do the trick when it comes to getting rid of them. To make it you’ll need liquid soap, water and a lemon or orange. In addition to this you’ll need to have a spray bottle to put the mixture in once it’s finished.
All you have to do is mix half a tablespoon of liquid soap with one quart of water and then add a drop or two of lemon or orange (both are effective). Add the contents to your spray bottle and then spray any plants that you want to protect. It’s always a good idea to use a biodegradable liquid soap where possible.
Garlic Chilli Spray
This is another incredibly easy to make spray that will keep your garden free of insects as well as slugs. Both pepper and garlic are natural repellents so this spray will have you covered from all angles.
In order to make it you should get a bowl with a spout and add the natural soap spray that you made above along with 1 tablespoon of chilli powder and 5 cloves of crushed garlic. Allow it to sit overnight and then strain the contents into your spray bottle. This spray will usually be good for 2 weeks and gives you an excellent means of combating unwanted pests in your garden.
If you have plants with fungal disease then this spray will do a great job of treating them. This is another simple mixture to make but you’ll be very thankful for it if you discover that one or more of your plants have mildew.
You should add oil and baking soda to a cup of warm water and stir them together until the soda completely dissolves in the water. You should then add a little more water (you want to use 2 quarts in total) and stir again. You can then add the mixture to your spray bottle. It’s important to point out that in order for this spray to be most effective, you should first remove any leaves from your plants that are severely damaged. You should treat plants every few days until the mildew has gone. This mixture is best used immediately.
