Great Plumbing Tips That Will Save You Money

We all have things we are good at and those we simply can’t master. Simple truth is, not everyone can be good at everything, but we all can learn how to do certain things around the house. One of these things is definitely plumbing. Even though most plumbing repairs really need a professional, you can learn how to fix at least simple problems, or fix them until your plumber gets there. Plumbing does look complicated, but in reality – it is a quite simple concept. The trick is to approach it properly and you’ll master it before you know it. Here are some tips that will help your pipes stay clean and your money in the wallet.

Septic Tank

Ok, we are starting with the thing you simply need to spend money on. Sorry.

To keep a septic tank in a working condition, have it pumped every five years. Initially, the price you’ll have to pay for septic tank pumping out will strike you as a bit overpriced, but then again it costs much more to have sewage and backups cleaned up and your septic tank repaired or replaced.

We advise you not to pay the full cost until the job is done. Even though you may be required to put some money down before a job is started, wait until the plumber has completed all the requirements promised. We are not suggesting all plumbers are dishonest or trying to cut corners, but situations like these have been known to happen. To keep foreign objects and debris from clogging drains, use filters on all drains. These can be cleaned out on a regular basis and you don’t need the help of a professional for it.

In case there is some water in the dishwasher, yet it’s not supposed to be there, the reason may easily be a hose that hadn’t been installed correctly.

If water that is not supposed to be there is in the dishwasher, it is probably because the hose attached to the sink is not installed correctly. In order for the water of both locations to not mix, the hose from your sink to your dishwasher needs to go upward before going back down. Make this change and everything will be working properly.

Plumbing Repairs

To avoid experiencing plumbing problems is to prevent problems before they happen. Usually, the main reasons of plumbing emergencies are caused because clogs weren’t dealt with when they should have been. Drains are easily clogged by hairs, so to prevent hairs clogging the drain, it’s best you removed them after each shower.

– Check your toilet regularly for any leaks. Here is a simple trick you can pull – drop a little food coloring into the tank. If there appears to be some colored water, you definitely have a leak that needs fixing.

– Terrible water pressure from the shower is usually the indicator that the shower-head is clogged. To protect the shower-head, tie a plastic baggie filled up with conventional vinegar for the shower-head. You should let it rest overnight and then take the baggie off in the morning. With a help of a tiny toothbrush, rub off and wash away any mineral deposits.

– When unclogging drains, do it as easily as possible. To make the process easier, use a plunger and drain cleaner. If a simple plunger doesn’t help, you’ll probably need to use a snake to clean the drain. The snake should be fed into the drain line as deeper as possible. Once it’s in, twist the crank gently. This move will help loosen the stop up. To determine if the stop up continues to be removed, take away the snake, and run water down the sink. You’ll probably have to use the snake a couple of times, just to make sure the stop-up is cleaned out.

– Instead of dumping cooking grease down the sink, opt for a better method. If you take care of the pipes, you’ll rarely ever have a problem with blocked drains. Have any steel container within your reach when cooking, so you can pour oil into it after cooking. When full, place the may inside the freezer to harden the oil. Then, discard it together with the garbage.
