It is a lot easier to clean the windows than it is to clean the blinds. Cleaning blinds is time-consuming, I know! But they can be a hiding place for dust in your home if neglected. Thus, cause diseases such as asthma, colds, and coughs.
It matters not the blinds’ material; vinyl, wood, aluminum, fabric, or faux-wood, they’ll always get dirty/stained. You, therefore, have to clean the pet fur, grease, dirt, grime, or dust that accumulates on them over time.
There are many ways to clean blinds. In this article, however, Clean Zen in Philadelphia has looked at the best, fast, and easy way.
Of course, you treat each material differently:
1. Vinyl
Always clean vinyl the same way you clean aluminum blinds. If the blinds have grease, use warm water and vinegar. The solution should be 1:1 ratio.
Allow the blinds to soak for approximately 1 hour before rinsing.
If, however, after rinsing, they have yellow stains, bleach them. Sunlight causes yellowing. So, add some bleaching agent into a basin of water. Soak the blinds for about ten minutes. The bleaching agent removes the yellow stains and whitens the blinds.
Thoroughly rinse and allow the blinds to dry.
2. Wood
You can use plain water or furniture polish to clean wood blinds. Unfortunately, water saturates the wood. To avoid that, don’t use excessive water. Also, after cleaning, wipe-dry any traces of water instantly. Otherwise, the blinds might discolor. Or worst, warp!
To avoid such cases, we recommend using furniture polish in place of water. Apply the polish on a clean, soft piece of cloth. Use it to wipe the blinds. Once one side is thoroughly clean, turn the blinds to clean the other side.
3. Fabric
Fabric blinds can either be roman, cellular, or pleated. In cases where you are dealing with dust, you can use a vacuum cleaner or hair drier to blow it off. The drier, however, should be in the “cool” settings. Higher settings damage the blinds. For the vacuum cleaner, use the “low” setting option.
Plus, use the dust brush attachment. Remember to move the drier or vacuum cleaner across every slat. This helps to eliminate any chances if leaving out some slats.
Nonetheless, if the fabric is greasy, dump a sponge in warm soapy water and then blot. Next, allow them to dry completely to limit the chances of saturation.
In cases where grease is dormant, seek help from professional blind cleaners.
4. Faux-wood Blinds
First, determine the type of stain you are dealing with. If the blinds have grease or dormant stains, use a solution of water and vinegar. Use a ratio of 1:1.
Get a clean microfiber piece of cloth or sock. Apply the solution.
Hold the bottom rail and turn the blinds one way. Clean all stains away. Turn the blinds the other way and clean. If the blinds aren’t stained, use a vacuum cleaner.
Attach a dust brush to it, use the lightest setting, and then vacuum both sides of the blinds.
